Five years ago, I set out to create an organization to educate Central Florida girls. My goal was to empower girls in science, technology, engineering, and math, helping them to develop confidence and a love for STEM.
Along the way, we were able to provide programming for hundreds of girls ages 5 -14, conducted professional development for educators across three counties, and partnered with SciGirls — “an Emmy award-winning PBS Kids television show, website, and educational outreach program” to strengthen our curriculum…just to name a few.
I would like to thank all of the families who trusted us with their (grand)daughters, the volunteers who unselfishly gave their time, and the companies and countless number of supporters who donated (both financially and in-kind). You helped make STEMchicks, Inc. a reality. The truth is, we could not have done any of this without you and we are forever grateful.
Although we had an enormous amount of support, STEMchicks, Inc. was funded primarily through bootstrapping and donations — which has been a challenge since the beginning. In spite of the fact that STEMchicks’s story is ending, I will continue to be a champion for girls and STEM education, as it is a cause that’s near and dear to my heart.
It has been a privilege to educate and empower your girls, and I look forward to meeting again, in new ways.
